Use the Fresh Stuff, Not Store-Bought Ginger Tea
Something you need to avoid doing is buying any kind of ginger tea from stores. The reason for this, for one, is because the vast majority of ginger tea bought in your local grocery stores, especially the more affordable options, simply do not have ginger in them, or very minimal amounts.
Often, these ginger teas are loaded with chemicals, artificial ginger flavors, and nothing real or healthy at all. If you plan on using ginger, especially ginger tea, make it yourself at home with fresh ginger.
Moreover, if you are thinking of using ginger ale, don’t bother. The amount of chemicals, sugar, and carbonation contained in ginger ale will do you absolutely no favors when it comes to acid reflux.
How to Take Ginger for Acid Reflux
As mentioned before, it’s best if you just buy some fresh ginger. Peel the ginger as best you can. A vegetable peeler usually works just fine. Shred the ginger and put it in a tea bag, or just steep it right in the water and then sift it out afterwards.
Start with just a couple of grams of ginger, as moderation is the key. Remember, you should not take more than 4 grams of ginger in a 24 hour period, or else it may actually worsen the symptoms of acid reflux. Also, keep in mind that for people who never eat ginger, there may be some minor side effects such as gas and bloating.
Other Acid Reflux Treatment Options
If ginger just isn’t your thing, you don’t like the taste, or it doesn’t work for you, there are some other natural options that do not involve medicine.
High alkaline foods and liquids can go a long way in neutralizing stomach acid. A great way to go is to make an alkaline heavy smoothie with almond milk.
Another substance which can work wonders for getting rid of acid reflux is baking soda. Baking soda is extremely basic and can neutralize stomach acid.
Although there is no solid medical basis for it, ginger has been shown to have beneficial properties for people with acid reflux, not to mention plenty of other health benefits too. However, as mentioned before, everybody is different, so ginger may or may not work for you. If this is the case, try something else like almond milk, baking soda, or if absolutely necessary, you can resort to medication as well.
